Volvo T-5R: Understated RAD

Originally shot for Avants Magazine

The Volvo 850 T-5R is one seriously Rad car. Produced in 1995 with a limited run in 96, these cars came in both sedan and more famously wagon trim, with around 240-250 turbocharged horses and either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual (unavailable in the US). The car was able to reach 0-60 in 5.7-6 seconds, giving it a reputation as a sleeper. The engine was also co-developed with Porsche.

Despite being boxy, and to some, rather pedestrian looking, the 850 T-5R had a few features that belied it's sporty nature, including alcantara trimmed seats, also developed in conjunction with Porsche, as well as a front lip, rear spoiler, and the 850 "motorsport badge".

Cream yellow, one of the OEM colors offered for this model only in 1995, number approximately 2500 worldwide, with only 364 sedans reserved for the US market and just 49 wagons.

Needless to say, this is a pretty special car. Ted owns this particular beautiful example!
